Massage is an experience that should stimulate a variety of senses and leave a client feeling both renewed and energized. There’s no denying that touch is important in massage. But if you’re not also focusing on the sights, sounds, and smells of the massage session you may be missing an opportunity to create a fully integrative experience.

To improve your massage therapy business we recommend that you focus on all of your clients’ senses, including:

  • Sight- Make sure the treatment room’s overhead lights are dimmed and consider adding additional task lighting to help you see your massage supplies. Low lighting creates a serene atmosphere that is calming to the senses.
  • Smell- Aromatherapy candles or diffusers are an excellent way to stimulate your client’s sense of smell. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to the massage lotions and towels during the session to infuse the space with the aroma. Since this sense is very personal you should consider asking your clients about their preferred smells before you begin.
  • Sounds- Your client should always have control over the playlist. Instead of relying on the standard “massage music” which often includes waterfalls and birds chirping, we recommend that you offer your clients a variety of styles to meet their personal tastes in music.

Recent research has provided even more evidence that exercising while pregnant offers both moms and babies an abundance of benefits.
